“Beautiful collection of essays on what it means to be a boy mom. Definitely a collection to read again and again.”

What Does It Mean to be a Modern-day Boy Mom?

Kara Forney goes beyond the typical narrative about raising boys through a collection of essays written by moms that speaks to the unexpected joys, challenges, and overall significance of mothering sons.

Boy Moms: Collective Tales of Mothers and Sons explores the truth of raising sons who challenge preconceived notions, teach you about love in a way you didn’t anticipate, and change the way you see yourself.

As this heartwarming collection demonstrates, despite what society has long told us to expect when it comes to being a Boy Mom, there is so much more to the story. The reality is an adventure filled with exquisite moments of insight, truth, and joy we never could have anticipated.

The Boy Moms Behind the Book

Kara Forney, author

Kara Forney  has been in the Mom business for some time.  Inspired by her own pregnancy experiences, in 2005 she became a dot com founder, creating TheBump.com and growing the company to become the go-to resource for expectant motherhood. TheBump.com was acquired by The Knot, Inc. (XO Group), and post-transition Kara exited to begin consulting with start-ups and growth stage companies as a mentor, advisor, and board member.

In addition to her work with founders, she also combines her passion for education and her alma mater by serving as the Executive Director for the University of Arizona Corporate Initiative.

Most importantly, Kara is the mother of two amazing young adults who delight and inspire her on a daily basis. She and her husband, Greg, live in Phoenix, Arizona, and are adjusting to the empty-nest life with the help of their dog, Ojo.

Elizabeth Lyons is a 5x author, book coach, and the founder of Finn-Phyllis Press (and independent publishing house).

In a previous life, she invented a product for babies that she tried desperately to get featured by The Bump. She can’t believe that she and Kara connected 9 years “too late,” and she’s also never believed in coincidence.

She’s a mom of 5 (including 3 boys—two of whom are twins), DIY obsessed, fanatical about (decaf) coffee, and an unapologetic (gluten-free) cupcake enthusiast.
